Can I shorten the shift ?

The freelancer will be paid for the time of the initially validated shift. Put yourself in his shoes, if he has turned down another assignment to accept yours, you cannot cut him short. On the other hand, the next time, plan a shorter mission, even if it means extending it if necessary.
